Cryolipolysis, commonly referred to as fat freezing, is a nonsurgical fat reduction procedure that uses cold temperature to reduce fat deposits in certain areas of the body. The procedure is designed to reduce localised fat deposits or bulges that do not respond to diet and exercise.
Your CoolSculpting results should last indefinitely. That's because once CoolSculpting kills off fat cells, they do not come back. But if you gain weight after your CoolSculpting treatment, you may gain fat back in the treated area or areas
Cryolipolysis isn't a weight-loss treatment. Treatment will result in the elimination of localised fat cells, but do not expect to really lose weight. If you carry 10 pounds of fat in your stomach and eliminate 26% of the fat cells in the treatment area, you can expect to lose around 2.6 pounds of fat from one session.
One session is normally enough for smaller areas, but if you want to treat a larger area or have a little more fat to address, two or three treatments may be necessary. In general, most people achieve their desired results after two sessions. Theoretically, you can schedule several sessions to treat a specific area.
Disadvantages of cryolipolysis include: The procedure is recommended only for people who are in good general health with no neurologic or orthopaedic problems and who are looking for “spot” fat reduction in specific areas on the body. Cryolipolysis is not recommended for people who have obesity.
CoolSculpting patients generally describe there experience more as uncomfortable than painful, though some patients do experience pain. During the first few minutes of treatment the patient experiences a tugging sensation when medical suction is used to keep the skin in place between the device's cooling panels.
Do not apply any medicated oil on the body parts where you've done a fat freeze procedure. Avoid exposing the treated area to the sun for up to 1 week after the treatment.
Rarely, cryolipolysis can cause mild or moderate pain afterward. You're also at a slight risk of nerve pain. Sometimes your skin can look less smooth afterward. Less than 1% of people who get it done have a complication called paradoxical fat hyperplasia.
Since CoolSculpting® reduces fat gradually for a moderate change, it's unlikely to cause sagging skin or make loose skin look worse. The fat cells that are broken down after the treatment are expelled by the body over months of time. The skin typically retracts around the new slimmer body contours.
CoolSculpting essentially kills the number of fat cells, so there are less of them in your body. Fat cells compromised by CoolSculpting become a waste product and then are processed by the lymphatic system and eliminated from the body permanently. These fat cells will not be regenerated by the body.
Once the treated fat cells have been frozen through cryolipolysis, they die. The body's natural reaction is to remove these dead fat cells through its natural elimination process. This is not temporary; the cells are permanently destroyed and eradicated from the body.
Because your liver is processing dead fat cells, you may notice changes in your bowel movements as fat cells are removed from your body. All of these side effects will subside within a few days or up to a few weeks.
