Medik8 offers a wide range of ‘medical grade’ peel treatments to suit everyone with various skin concerns including acne and aging. Peels are not only suitable for the face, but also other areas of the body requiring rejuvenation, e.g. on the back to help clear acne concerns or even in the underarm or bikini line area where skin can become dark and ashy. Chemical peels work down in the deeper layers of the skin going as far as the Dermis. They then aid in exfoliation from the inside out. Peels can be used as a one off treatment to refresh however, a course is generally recommended for specific concerns eg acne.

A consultation is required where you will meet your therapist, discuss your skin concerns and choose the peel most suited to your skin. Once all is agreed and you are happy the treatment can be performed on the same day as the consultation. Your skin will be cleansed of all makeup and Vaseline is applied around the eyes, nose and lips. The peel is then applied to the skin and will penetrate into the deeper layers removing unwanted layers of skin to encourage collagen and cell renewel to reveal younger, rejuvenated skin. Once the peel has been on as long as you can hold it the neautralisation stage begins. A calming facemask is then applied to calm the skin followed by feeding the skin with Vitamins.

Treatment time is around 45 minutes per session. Courses of 3 and 6 are recommended depending on the severity of the skin and each peel is carried out 2-3 weeks apart. Results will be begin to show a few days after a peel once the skin has began repairing, renewing and shedding dead skin cells.

How Chemical Peel Works?

A non-toxic chemical solution is applied to the skin to remove the unwanted top layer or layers. This encourages collagen production and cell renewal, to reveal an age-defying healthier, younger-looking you. Treatments are mostly pain-free, though some peels can lead to light swelling of the affected area or peeling of the skin for a few days after the procedure. Your trained practitioner can give you the advice you need on the right type of peel for you, devising a tailored treatment plan to achieve optimum results!
How long will I need to recover?

Some chemical peels are single treatments and involve no downtime. Others require a course of treatments, some of which have little or no downtime, and others that come with a maximum of a 7-10-day recovery period. You should always use sunblock post-treatment as your skin can be quite sensitive. After any skin peel, you are free to leave the clinic as soon as you feel comfortable to do so.
What do the peels contain?

These peels contain;
Salicylic Acid - derived from aspirin, dissolves top layers of the skin, removes impurities, provides an antiseptic, antibacterial & fungicidal action
L-Mandelic Acid - derived from bitter almonds, powerful exfoliation without stinging, treats photoaging, hyperpigmentation, and acne. Often compared to Glycolic Acid
L-Malic Acid - derived from apples. small molecular structure to penetrate deeper, evens out skin tone, regulates sebaceous activity.
L-Lactic Acid - derived from sour milk. Hydrates treat hyperpigmentation and acne.
Lactobionic Acid- derived from the lactose in cow's milk. Exfoliating, normalizing, antioxidant. Water-retaining properties
Phytic Acid - antioxidant with exfoliating properties. An effective depigmenting agent, proven to reduce melanin formation.
